My Awesome Computer (AKA, Why I hate Vista)

I’m backing up some important files to my external hard drive. Because my computer is super slow and inefficient, each task is running one at a time. According to this screen shot, it will take 125 days 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 10 seconds to back up the 7 folders I’m attempting to back up.

boo! to Erica's computer!

I’ll let you know in February if it’s done yet.

Vista does some funny things on calculating time remaining. I could go into a whole bit about available disk performance capacity of an external USB connected disk in terms of IOPS vs. throughput, and the size of each IO, and the concurrency of operations. That would bore you.

You’d be better off doing 1 or 2 jobs at a time, and enable the disk cache on your drives to speed up the process…. A defrag of your hard drives would help with this too, as the disk would have to do less seeking across the platters for the next block to read/write.

I understood 1 or 2 at a time and defrag. I will defrag!

In the words of despair.com, another dissatisfied customer! I recommend never using Windows ever again, life is so much better sans-Windows.

I would recommend Windows 7 – I have it on all of my computers and find it is a nice upgrade in terms of performance, reliability, and usability.

    Get a Mac.
